Career

Creating the Stargirl Comics

Geoff was close to his sister, Courtney Johns, who died in 1996 during the TWA flight 800 disaster. She was eighteen at the time and was on her way to France to be a foreign exchange student. Three years later in 1999, Geoff sold his first comic book proposal to DC Comics. He called it, "Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E.". It starred Courtney Whitmore, the second Star-Spangled Kid, later known as Stargirl, alongside S.T.R.I.P.E.. It was a story about how a family is created by bond, not blood. Stargirl was named after and inspired by his sister, Courtney. It is her spirit and optimistic energy that he wanted to put back in the world with Stargirl.

Creating Stargirl TV Series

In July 2018, Geoff Johns announced a Stargirl series, where he, along with Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter, will pen and executive produce the show for the OTT DC Universe service.[1]
